Contending for The Faith

Contending for The Faith
We should stop pretending we are committed to our faith and contend for it. We should be committed to what we believe, we should prove our faith with our actions. We need to follow the command of the Lord and step out of our comfort zones. We need to be committed to doing something everyday of our lives us forward, that accomplishes something positive for the Kingdom of God. We can see an excellent example of contending for the faith in the story of David and Goliath. David a small boy at the time, and all traditional logic said he could not do it. For that matter nobody could, not only had nobody ever defeated Goliath, but there was not anyone even willing to try. Not even Davids own brothers, but David knew who he was in God and trusted in the Lord and the skills he had given him. After all David had killed bears and Lions with his slingshot. Why should this be any different? The simple answer is that it wasn't, he was simply doing what he always did, he listened to the Lord and defended his flock. David was blessed of God to win this battle and become King, but if he would have never stepped out in faith he would have never know his destiny. Contending for the faith is like a prize fighter investing in body shots on his opponent. If you know anything about boxing or martial arts you know that you are always trained to focus on the body. George Foreman, a former World heavyweight champion said "Invest in shots to the body, they will pay dividends in the later rounds." I was at a series of prayer meetings a few years back, the people from my church had assembled to pray for a dear friend who was fighting a losing battle with cancer. In those meetings the Lord spoke something to several of us. The Lord said "Contending for the faith is like body shots to the enemy with a sledgehammer." We need to start contending for the Kingdom. If we want to contend we must makes sure we follow the four C's. We need to be committed to the will of God and the vision of our local church. We must stay connected to other believers a local church and a ministry. We have to be consistent, we need to constantly do the ground work for our growth in the Lord. We are the only ones who can do it for ourselves. We are not any kind of threat to the kingdom of darkness if we only read the Word or pray every once and a while. And lastly we need to stay complete, which is the sum of all of the last three. We are only complete when we are in the Lord, if we follow through with the previous three we will be complete people and children of God.

Worship

Worship
God inhabits the praise of his people, how many of us truly realize that we can praise the Lord in many and varying ways. We can worship in church on Sunday morning, but we can also worship and praise him with our work. If we use the skills he has given us for him and to glorify him that is an act of worship. This goes much further as a testimony to your faith than any words ever could. Saint Augistine said: "Preach the gospel at all times, occasionally using words." If that is the way we live our lives even when there isn't anyone looking, our entire life we be an act of worship. And if we really commit to doing that think of all the change we will make for the kingdom, think of all of the people we will become more receptive to Christians and through us Christ.

Time

Time
Time is not an obstacle for God, look at what he did with Noah. It was 120 years until his promise was fulfilled. The Word says that no one save Noah pleased God. So God set out to destroy humanity. What a burden to have on your shoulders--the future of all of humanity, not to mention all of the animal kingdom. Yet through all of this, through all of the years, through all of the ridicule and strife (you have to remember that it had never rained before and Noah lived a long way from water) Noah stayed faithful, and God prospered him through it. God carried Noah through arguably the greatest storm of all time, he carried him through it and prospered him because of his faith. Yet it wasn't just Noah, God did that for time and again we see God showing up for people who have faith. If we just study Genesis we find many people that God was there for. Abraham, Joshua, Moses. These were all ordinary people yet because of there faith God propelled them into the eternal heavenly hall of fame. If that is true, how much more will he be there for us. If we can learn to be like Noah, Abraham, and Moses to have that kind of patience and faith then we will see the kind of miracles that can only be described as Biblical happen in our life.

The Church

The Church
We need a unified church, we need to believe the same thing. The enemy is unified he attacks us on a unified front. He attacks people in Africa with the same tactics as he does in Asia and America. His methods don't really change, if we don't unify we will get picked off one by one.

The Flesh

The Flesh
I believe that we all have a little bit of both Cain and Abel in us. I believe this is the legacy from the fall. Adam who forsook his friend begat two sons, they each had a piece of him. Cain the part of him that caused the fall questioned God, but Abel was most closely connected to the part of Adam who was created by God, the part who wanted to walk with him again the way he had before. The part who wanted to be faithful to him, this is born out in Abel's offerings. Cain however only makes a halfhearted effort. The part of us that is connected to Abel is the part we listen to when we are worshiping and come forward for an altar call. Then there is the Cain side, the part of us that says its ok go ahead and do it, you will not surely die, you can always get forgiveness later. That is our flesh talking and it is a constant battle for most of us. It is a difficult fight, Abel lost that fight to his brother Cain, but we dont have to fight alone we have been redeemed by Christ, so we can fight, we should fight and we can and will win. We should contend for God, after all he fought for us. We owe him that much.

The Word of God

The Word of God
The Word is a legally binding contract. We have been given certain things by God, (Namely salvation) and if we accepted those things we are bound to hold up our end of the deal by upholding his Law. The Word is binding but its more than that it has many sides and facets, it has many layers like an onion or the core of a tree. The Word is an eviction notice. We must take it and post it in our hearts. When we do this we are telling the enemy that he has been defeated and that he and all of his servants must get behind us, just like Jesus did.

Desires

Desires
Our first and Greatest desire should be for soft and receptive hearts. We should want more then anything to be receptive to God and his will for us. You dont need anything apart from what is given unto you by God. "Man does not survive by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." In other words, the only true blessings come from above. And if God hasn't given it to me than I dont need it. If its not in the Word than its not for me. Now let me explain this for a minute, if it doesn't line up with the word of God than it is not of God and is not where I need to be. "In the beginning there was the Word, and the word was with Gd and the word was God." You see so if God cannot lie than his will must line up with His Word. So if God gave it to us then thats great, but if he didn't give you what you wanted then that's great too. Besides not only did you not need it, its probably better of that you dont have it.

The Light of God

The Light of God
Light combats darkness, the light of God combats the darkness of evil and sin. If we really look around we can see parables or types and shadows that point towards the truth of the Bible. The the big bang theory states, hold on dont get nervous I'm just making a point. Basically it stipulates that there was certain amount of dark matter or anti-matter (which opposes and tries to destroy matter). And a certain amount of matter, since the other stuff was called dark matter we might as well call this stuff light matter. Now these two entities or forces start interacting with each other and at some point there is either no dark matter left or not enough to substantially effect the light matter. Now science tells us that this was the beginning of the universe and the start of everything including us. Now I personally think that this theory is shot full of holes and basically a load. However I can see a few good things in it. What we can take from this is a parable of the fall of Satan. He wasn't content with his place in Heaven so he rebelled against God, which seems to be what gets so many of us down here in trouble. We have desires for certain things that dont appear to be in the will of God for us, or at least not at this moment. So we act like Satan and rebel for a while. If we do look at this as a parable we can easily see God in it. The dark matter opposed the light and lost. The Light of God can not be opposed by anything or anyone.

Persistence

Persistence
We have to be more persistent in our faith then the Enemy is in His. He Believes he can break you, that he can destroy you. But he can't, the Word of God is very clear his weapons are of no value because we have The Almighty God as our shield and fortress, he is our protector. And more than that we are above Satan, he is only an angel. And Angels are a rung below Man on the heavenly chain of command. So in fact we have power over Satan not the other way around.

Righteousness

Righteousness
The ability to come be fore God knowing we have been redeemed by Jesus' Sacrifice and that all our sins have been cleansed. And that we have been made equals with Christ as children of promise and children of the Father. True righteousness is the ability to come to the Throne of the King with no guilt or condemnation.

The Mind

The Mind
When it comes to our mind we can not, no must not give place to Satan, we cant give Satan our mind. When we think his thoughts we give him our mind. And we we give him our mind we give him power over us. A seed of a thought gives birth to sin which leads to death. When are minds are not inline with the Word of God we are at war with ourselves and not Satan. Therefore we are taking no Ground for the Kingdom and very possibly going backwards. I f this becomes true of us we will become completely ineffectual for the kingdom. Jesus Said that a house dived against itself can not stand. If this holds true, then how many Christians today are completely ineffectual, and taking no ground for The Lord. How do we combat this type of attack? There is really only one way, through the constant and continual renewing of our minds for Christ. If we keep washing ourselves in the Blood by renewing our mind in the Word we can combat these attacks. You have to have enough Word in You to fight the battle. We must lean into the Word, it must the the pillar the strong place that holds us up in times of weakness and temptation. Romans 12:"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." I can quote from anything I want to, but it has no power. Only the Word has true power, only the eternal in corruptible seed has true power to cast down strongholds in our mind. That being said we need to use the Word to cast down and destroy our strongholds and give God unfettered access to us and our minds. Only then can we try to help someone else with there problems and there strongholds. We can never break down other peoples strongholds if we haven't dealt with ours Yet. Its not just our thoughts that should be different. A thought breeds an action, so if we think like Jesus than we should act like him to. If this is not happening then there are some problems we need to deal with first. And we need to ask God to show them to us. It is not enough for us to say we love God and that we are submitted to Christ, we must prove it. You may ask how do I prove my love for him? It really is very simple, you can gauge your progress towards your goal of actions meeting thinking with this simple saying. "does my life prove to be an acceptable and perfect sacrifice for God, is it the acceptable and perfect will of God for my Life."

Faith

Faith
Its the ultimate low Risk Venture. Of all the things we can invest in from people to bank accounts to the stock market, there is only one that is a sure thing. Invest your 3 T"s in the Lord of Hosts, The Almighty God. God has blessed us with a finite amount of time we should spend as much of it as we can doing the work he has sent us here to do. We should spend our treasure investing in his kingdom, and our talent in the area of ministry he has provided for us. If we keep moving out in faith and investing in him and his economy we will never want for anything. Remember that its a walk not a sprint, even Christ had to wait for his appointed time and ministry.

Fear

Fear
We may be scarred, we may be out numbered. But let me tell you something we are never ever outgunned. We serve a good, and big God. So step out in faith, I promise you he has reinforcements. He created all that you can see and all that you cant, he created you and me, he created the whole universe. He can do all things that are possible and all that is not. So step out in faith reinforcements are already on the way. And oh by the way we are not ever really outnumbered, we have the power of the holy spirt dwelling in us, we just have accept and use the power we have in us.

Hearing Gods Voice

Hearing Gods Voice
God keeps calling us, but for so many of us the phone is on call forwarding. We are not tuned in properly and the call just goes right past us to a message bank we dont remember the pin code for. He keeps calling but we never answer, he leaves messages but we dont call him back. But thankfully God knows us better than anyone, and if we really want he offers a way to tune back in and to retrieve those messages and so much more. And it starts with His word. His love letter to us, if we really want to know how to hear his voice we can start with his word.

Dis-Graced

Dis-Graced
We must live up to what God has told us in prayer and the Word of God. If we dont live up to our mission and calling we can loose our power or anointing just like sampson. When we sin we separate ourselves from God and his grace and power.

A boys Journey

A boys Journey
By Vincent Allen

Breakdown:
2 actors, same character, meant to convey the duality in the soul of the young man.
Boy 1: emotional center, inner voice
Boy 2: physical exterior, child like believer
Boys start up stage center back to back.
Italics are stage directions

Boy 2 acts out the movements of text.

BOY 1.
I sit here in a dark corner—alone, hungry and in pain. Is there anyone out there? Where is everybody? Hello!!!

Boy 2 is suddenly pushed by Boy 1. He bursts out of the corner, action; he rushes out of the front door.

BOY 1.

Through the door I burst in a fury of anger and frustration. Blinded by the orange hot glow of the midday sun—I stagger forth in to the world, squint, take a few breaths and scream uncontrollably

Boy 2 screams, monotonically.

BOY 1.

I say to myself…

BOY 2.

Self, how the hell did I get here?

BOY 1.

What was once dark is now light. I look around and see a whole new world; my respiration is uneasy at first, fast and uneven but then slower and slower in a seemingly melodic harmony. I collapse under the weight of the world. I attempt to move but soon find it to be dangerous and difficult. Realizing how different and deadly this world is from the last one, I try to move once more. Still unable to work my body, I start to wonder and think. I again say to myself…

BOY 2.

I may die here.

BOY 1.

But ever stubborn and persistent I keep trying until finally I am able to control my body. My heart however, is another matter entirely!!!!

Fade to black. Lights pop up on boys center stage. Again back to back.

BOY 2.

As I move through this new and exciting world, I start to notice things. How the wind blows, moving the trees back and forth. The trees, they seemed to dance to the music of the world, the grass seemed to be caught up in the motion of the trees, like a younger brother eager to follow his older brother. As time passes I begin to notice the difference between artificial and organic. Cars, planes, boats, and other things capture my attention—they captivate me. I watch the cars and I am taken to a far off world, a world of dream and magic, monsters and wizards…

BOY 1.

A world where the cars gallop forth like chariots of the Gods, marching forward through time through the ever changing wilderness—the continuously shrinking primeval forest. The tempo ever constant—yet ever changing. Signs of the times, the changing world – servants, slave to our masters of the infodustrial era. Masters carrying us forward to our inevitable outcome.

BOY 2.

I drift in and out of a dream world of sorts, being contented with who I have become and my dreams.

BOY 1.

I was moving forward continuously never stopping. I was growing up, I had become a man… a man desperate and

BOTH.

ALONE.

Lights slowly fade to black (10 second fade).

I miss you

I miss you
Like the dry sands of time long for the satisfying quenching moist kiss of rain
I long for you
The warmth of you embrace
The joy in your caress
The magic in your smile
one kiss from you changes my world
satisfies my desire--quenches my thirst
I long for you

If I could but change the stars
I would have them write your name in the heavens
I would declare your beauty on the eternal night sky
so that all men might share in the pleasure that I have
That all eternity would know the way the sound of your voice
The mere mention of your name
How it brightens my eyes
The way it makes my heart tremble

I love you with an undying love
I love you with the love of a thousand hearts
You will forever be my muse

Every moment you are gone is as a thousand lifetimes

I MISS YOU

Sand

Why can’t I stop thinking about you
Every time I try to sleep thoughts of you race through my mind
When you are not near me my life seems just a little more empty
Your smile brightens up my days
The glow of your eyes illuminates my eternity

You are like a specter a ghost
the times I see you are far to fleeting
When I hold you it id like holding sand
Every time I am with you my heart dances and sings with joy

Why can’t I stop thinking about you
why can’t I hold on to you
you are like holding onto sand
A mystery
an enigma
Impossible to hold onto

Free

How do I get free
Father I want to be where you want me to be
I want to be free of this darkness
Lord Hasten your chariots

Send your legions of angels
Rise up, protect me

I no longer want to be me

Transformation
Change me, remake me, make me new

Deliverance Pt II

Lord help me to trust you
teach me your ways
defend me from mine enemies,
those who would circle around about me
compassing me with evil and wickedness
Father show me you ways and appoint my feet onto your path
Teach me how to live in your ways
I thank you Father that I can trust you, you are a good God
You are my loving father I praise your holy name
Your are worthy to be praised, I shall trust you al of the days of my life.
I thank you Father that you have delivered me from my tormentors, my enemies

How great are you Lord

How great are you o lord
you dwell in the midst of thy people
how majestic are you
you created the the universe in all it's majesty
all the universe is but a reflection of your unending power, grace and majesty

How great are are your ways
you span the heavens in the palm of your hand
yet you visit me
you come and sit with me
you hold my hand
You are so beautiful, majestic and glorious
The creator of everything spanning all of creation in but your hand
Yet you dwell on the inside of me
How great great are you Lord that you love me

Deliverance

In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust
Let me never be afraid of my trials and tribulations
for you are the one who delivers me
you are my shield, my fortress and high tower
I rejoice for you alone are the one who blesses me
I thank thee Lord, for you hide me in your secret place
though mine enemies swarm round about me you alone shall keep me
I have hated those things that are not of you, and while in the midst of my sin,
Lord you have established me in your blessings,
You alone have loved me when no one else could
you alone can set my feet to dancing and cause my heart to rejoice
I will praise your name in all seasons
for you have caused me to overcome
every trial I have faced, every sickness
you have given me victory
you alone O Lord cause me to have rest
In you will I forever settle my heart
You are the King of my life
In your presence shall I dwell forever

Why

Why is it, that everyone else around me seems to have provision for not only what they need but what they want. I can’t make it through I am so tired of Christians, I am so sick of church, it just seems as if everyone else gets away with talking and acting anyway they want. You say you are my God, you say you will rise up and protect me. How long Lord will you let me twist in the wind, stuck out here with nothing to do and nothing to be. What does it take to live God’s life, how do I move on from this.
